How to reset mac os x 10.4.11 password with install disks?

I have the install disks, but when i put disk 1 in and restart the computer it starts like normal and spits out the disk. Even if I hold down C after the start up chimes. I cant upgrade anything without the password and its becoming so frustrating and the computer has become so out of date...please HELP!
