My computer doesnt open?

my computer doesnt want to start... it's a mac b. air . yesterday i was updateting the software . when it was done updating it told me to restart the computer, when i restarted the computer it shows me a white apple but than a stop sign and it doesent want to open!!! I need help because I just bought this stupid computer 3 days ago!!
